The Holy Spirit this morning in our communion time reminded me to share with you again the importance of guarding your words. Proverbs.18:21. stresses the importance of what you choose to speak. The reality is clear because what you choose to say will determine your progress or ultimate demise.
No matter the obstacles or challenges that you face, you must refuse to allow any event or situation in life to force you to speak negatively of the Lord concerning His promise to you.
Keep hold of the word of the Lord to you and saturate yourself by speaking it out boldly and confidently in the middle of contrary situations that arise to move you out of position. Let the words of the Lord so saturate your thoughts and tongue that they become a shield of protection around you.Psalm.91:4b.
Let me say these words which I have found to be true. The Holy Spirit continually corrects us daily and guides us into further deeper truth so we can walk free. Don’t believe the lie that says the Holy Spirit only encourages us but never tells us off. Hebrews.12:5 & 6 tells us clearly that those whom the Lord loves He chastens. The Holy Spirit is a perfect gentleman and corrects us with dignity and respect but certainly does correct us so we can change to line up with the Father’s will as we conform to the image of Jesus.
In Proverbs.13:3 from the Passion translation we read these words: Guard your words and you’ll guard your life, but if you don’t control your tongue, it will ruin everything. “I have found this infallible truth that whatever the Holy Spirit says we need to do must become our priority, because all the words He speaks bring life and that more abundantly.” John.16:14 & 15.
So when the Lord says to guard your words, then ask yourself this question: if I have something precious worth much, what do I need to do to protect it from being stolen or harmed or even destroyed because it has great value? This is exactly what the Holy Spirit wants you to develop with the words that you speak because your words are more precious and more valuable than your greatest physical assets because they will determine your life outcomes.
Let us review this truth from this perspective. If you refuse to guard what you say and are frivolous with your words, then your life will be unguarded. Your outcomes in life will be at the mercy of what others say about you. It also means that any thief can break into your life space and steal all your goods because you have no protection. Meaning you will then go on to experience ruin. What a tragedy that will be especially because you have God’s promise for your life which you only have to speak.
To guard your words is a command from Jesus to us His followers because what we say determines the course we will follow. Mark.11:23 & 24.
Let us look further into this thought of guarding our words from the Lord in Malachi.3:13-15 which reads these words: “Your words have been harsh against Me, ”Says the Lord, “Yet you say, ‘What have we spoken against You?’14 You have said, ‘It is useless to serve God; What profit is it that we have kept His ordinance, And that we have walked as mourners Before the Lord of hosts? 15 So now we call the proud blessed, For those who do wickedness are raised up; They even tempt God and go free.’ ”
We have a clear view, an undeniable fact from these words spoken by the Father, what the Lord thinks about our negative words and what harm they are to our eventual outcome. I am so grateful the Lord tells us clearly what damage our negative words cause to our progress. So we can see the harm they cause and change through repentance our perspective to only speak words that build up and bring life.
Let us unpack this truth of what the Lord is saying here: you can speak words that are harsh against the only help you have in life which is the Lord. Our negative words can adversely affect what the Lord says about you to the point where you incur harm because you are in agreement with your enemy who seeks to hurt you and now find yourself in opposition to the Lord who loves you with all His promises towards you which were intended for your good..
It gets even worse in this word from Malachi because instead of repenting for misusing your words you justify them by saying what you have said against the Lord is truth contradicting what His promises clearly define. This is what gives the enemy more fuel to raise attacks over and against you because you are in agreement with him about your situation rather than what God says about you. This is exactly what Job did in Job.38:2 when the Lord told him that his words were darkening the Lord’s counsel towards him.
This is because you take the words of the enemy and speak them rather than what the Lord says about you. This is extremely costly because it causes the Holy Spirit to be unable to help you because you choose to speak lies rather than agree with the truth by confessing it to bring about your deliverance. However If you chose to guard your words you would be in agreement with the Lord and will receive what He said about you regardless of the obstacles that rise up against you. Romans.10:10.
Your God given words spoken in faith will remove any mountain that rises up before you and level them to the ground. Mark.11:23 & 24. Therefore go right ahead to walk in the fulfilment of all the Lord has said concerning you to glorify his name. Remember it is the Lord who said in Isaiah.54:17 that no weapon formed against you shall prosper and every tongue that rises up against you in judgment, you shall condemn, for this is your heritage as a servant of the Lord.
Ask yourself this question: do I really believe that word of the Lord is true concerning you? Settle that fact in your heart then believe it, and receive it as you take that word by declaring it boldly over your life till your believing it explodes from your heart causing you to experience it in your daily life. The Holy Spirit means what He says and always says what He means so you can always be certain that it will come to pass with a wonderful miracle which will give you a greater witness of just how great God really is.
The Lord Himself said I raised Pharaoh up so that I could show my power to deliver through his stubbornness in refusing to let My people go by doing greater signs and wonders for all to see the magnificence of God’s greatness in action on the earth.
Think how great that event was that Rahab after forty years on remembers that event and helps God’s men at the cost of her relationship with the king which results in her being the only person with her family saved in Jericho. Then she goes on to gain a new inheritance in Israel which then comes into being for her life.
My prayer for you this morning is that as you hear these words you will repent for speaking loose, foolish and ignorant words against the Lord. Quickly turn through the grace afforded you through these words to guard your words as you find yourself back in the winning position based on your truth confessions of the word of the Lord to you. Then go on to experience the mighty working of the Holy Spirit in the events and situations of your life.
May the reality of the great and precious promises of God to you be your continued confession.
Let the words of the Holy Spirit be the guard to your mouth which only utter what thus saith the Lord concerning your life events as it produces signs, wonders and miracles on your behalf to change the landscape of your lives in the name of Jesus. Amen.
