In a deeply searching time of communion, the Holy Spirit revealed a sobering truth that the greatest hindrance to progress in our lives is not the devil, nor other people or men’s curses, nor external opposition from our foes, but the unhealed scars of one’s own conscience.
These inner wounds become the invisible ropes that bind, sabotage our progress, and rob us of destiny. They create in our hearts repetitive cycles of failure, by keeping a person hostage to their past pain, sorrow, betrayal, and bitterness which are the places where there is no life, but only death cycles. Hebrews.12:15.
The Holy Spirit went on to expose how scars in the conscience cause repeated patterns of sin. To the point where even when a person hates the pain those sins produce and sincerely promises not to fall again, the unresolved wound pulls them back into the same behavior. This leads to further deeper frustration and self-questioning as to Why do I keep repeating this? Why can I not overcome it?
The answer is that the scar has never been healed so the brokenness of heart continues to shape responses, by dominating your thought patterns, thus distorting the processing of truth. It unfortunately becomes the controlling lens of your life, by eclipsing your reality and holding you captive to failure , even while bold outward efforts toward success are being made.
The good news of deliverance came through Scripture when the Holy Spirit pointed to Hebrews 9:14, which declares that the blood of Christ, offered through the eternal Spirit without spot or blemish, cleanses our conscience from dead works so that we may be able to serve the living God.
This issue is not merely behavioural because it points to the reality that our consciences need cleansing. The blood of Jesus alone can purge the inner stain of the heart and break the cycle of dead works that lead to repeated outcomes of death and loss.
Further clarity of this fact came through Hebrews 12:15, which warns against allowing a root of bitterness to spring up in the heart, which causes trouble, and defiles not just yourself but many. The Spirit revealed that bitterness in any situation always springs up from within our hearts. It is not an external influence but one springing up from the heart.
It grows from unresolved hurts which have not been dealt with and have been allowed to fester which contaminates the heart, causing us to fall short of God’s grace which is the very help we need to be free. These roots are then stored deep within the soul and cannot be addressed superficially.
As a result shallow repentance without true healing which involves uprooting the roots of bitterness allows the vicious cycle to continue, while the enemy deceptively convinces us the issue has been resolved thus continuing to hold us hostage spiritually.
The Holy Spirit made it perfectly clear that the true enemy in this matter is not the external forces which arise in people, but the internal wounds of self-sabotage rooted in an unhealed conscience that keep salving our excuses that it is not our fault. The Holy Spirit went on to reveal the solution which requires honesty and transparency before the Lord.
As followers of Jesus we must acknowledge our real feelings about painful experiences, by confronting bitterness and sorrow openly, and then receive the cleansing power of Christ’s blood to purge away these dead works from affecting us again.
Jesus came not only to forgive our sins but to deliver us from our enemies and from the power of those who hate us, so that we might serve Him without fear in holiness and righteousness all our days (Luke 1:71, 74–75).
While it is often easier to identify and confront external enemies, the greater challenge is confronting the enemy within our own hearts because that requires us dealing with the fact that we are not perfect and that nothing good resides in our hearts.
The human heart is deceitful and desperately wicked, and only the Lord can truly reveal its motives as the Lord said to Jeremiah in Jeremiah.17:9 & 10.True freedom begins when we recognize our inability to heal ourselves and our complete dependence on the Lord to cleanse, restore, and lead us in our heart into the place of triumph.
I conclude this word of deliverance with a heartfelt prayer that as followers of Jesus you would allow the Holy Spirit to uproot the hidden scars of the conscience, then heal the inner wounds, which will stop the cycles of self-sabotage, so that after having invested time and energy to seeking the Lord, you will not miss out on the fullness of His blessings due to unresolved inner bondage lying dormant in your hearts.
My desire for you is that the good hand of the Lord rests upon you mightily as you walk in the abundant grace supplied by the Holy Spirit to bring you into total freedom as the Lord’s goodness flows freely with overflowing signs, wonders and miracles to glorify His name in your lives.
I declare that in the Name of Jesus every scar and stain of bitterness upon your conscience is cleansed by the precious blood of Jesus Christ. Every root of bitterness is exposed for the lie it is in your life and uprooted out in Jesus name. I decree that all cycles of repetition of negative patterns and self-sabotage are broken off you today in Jesus name.
I declare that you will no longer be bound by your past pain, human betrayal, or sorrow and the blood of Jesus now purges your conscience from all dead works that have plagued you, and you are now empowered by the Holy Spirit to serve the living God in holiness and righteousness without fear going forward.
I decree that all enemies within your heart are silenced, as the abundant grace of the Lord rises up strong within you to empower you to walk forward in total freedom, triumph, and the restored destiny of the glory of the Lord as the goodness of the Lord overtakes you now in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
