The Holy Spirit says to stop everything and listen carefully to what He is saying to you so you can proceed promptly to do it. It is time to open your heart to receive the counsel of the Holy Spirit by allowing His words to influence your actions. Don’t always be too hasty to respond to the first word spoken but allow your heart to understand what is being said to you. This ensures that you are carrying out only what thus says the Lord rather than a portion of what you think the Lord is saying.

When we look at the book of 1 kings:19.11-13 we find Elijah is forced to listen for the voice of the Lord as he hears the Lord in three different ways he had heard or known the Lord to speak to him before. However on this occasion we are told that the Lord passed by three times but was not instructing Elijah through that avenue. It was vitally important for Elijah to continue focusing on the Lord with his heart open to what the Lord would speak to him that day. Finally the Lord spoke to Elijah after those three encounters of passing by in a still small voice that directed him on how he ought to walk and what he needed to do.

Elijah had to discern the voice of the Lord correctly and not let the spectacle of the wind, the earthquake and the fire experience influence him to miss what the Lord was saying. You will notice that the Lord spoke nothing to Elijah through those manifestations. I recall an incident which happened with my co fellowship leader when I was in the Anglican Church. She mentioned to me that she had got a visitation from the Lord. So I asked her what did Jesus say to her?

She responded that there was a wonderful presence when He came but I kept asking her what instructions did He give you or speak to you concerning your life and she responded none. I then told her that every time in scripture when Jesus appeared to any person He always gave them a word they could hold onto that changed their situation so she should have asked Him why He had visited her as proof that it was truly Him and not a masquerade of satan to deceive her. She got nothing from that claimed experience and in fact was attacked further.

I then encouraged her to ask the Lord to visit again just as Manoah the Father of Samson had asked of the Lord after the Angel of the Lord had visited his wife to speak to her of the son they would have whom they should call Samson and what they as parents were to do concerning him as he grew up because he was going to be a Nazarene to be used by the Lord to bring Israel deliverance from the Philistines. Judges.13:1-25. However even when she made that request from scripture to the Lord that event never still happened. So nothing came from that event which she thought was Jesus visiting her. We need to be vigilant concerning things we experience to ensure they follow scripture because satan can transform himself into an angel of light to deceive us.

Well the Holy Spirit wants you to stop presuming you understand what He is saying to you based on your past experience by allowing Him to conclude the conversation He brought to you rather than moving on with what you think He is saying and then miss the true plan. It is of vital importance that you hear clearly the instructions of the Holy Spirit and obey them for in that instruction lies your deliverance, help and way out in any and every situation. 1 John.4:1-3.

The Holy Spirit also brought back to my heart what had happened with Elijah when the rain came back after three years how Elijah sent out His servant to check for rain seven times while he remained in prayer and how though the servant brought six negative responses that nothing was happening about the rain falling Elijah pressed in on the Lord and finally the servant responded that he saw a cloud the size of a man’s hand and Elijah knew that the rain was about ready to fall and positioned himself for it. 1 Kings.18:41-46.

He remained attentive to the Holy Spirit and did not presume on his ability of having heard God before or his past knowledge of God but rested on discerning the voice of the Holy Spirit. Today the Lord wants you to open your hearts to Him and become better hearers and listeners to His counsel as you watch how you will avoid many pits and downward spells set to trap and make you fall. You will have resounding results because you heeded the voice of the Holy Spirit.

May you find the grace supplied to you in these words to mobilize you to patiently wait for and hear out completely what the Holy Spirit is saying to you. Then proceed to do it which will result in much rejoicing because your fruit will be much and very rewarding in Jesus’name. Amen.

Let this word from Jude 24-25 be your continued prayer from now on: Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy,25 To God our Savior, Who alone is wise, Be glory and majesty, Dominion and power, Both now and forever.
