Today I am sharing the continuation of my communion time with the Holy Spirit about us being called to believe and live beyond what Is humanly conceivable.
In Galatians.2:20, the Apostle Paul declares that we have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer we who live, but Christ who lives in us, and the life we now live in the flesh is lived by the faith of the Son of God, who loved us and gave Himself for us. This truth must become more than just a statement of faith we confess. It must wholeheartedly become the reality that governs how we live. If Christ truly lives in us, then what should be manifested through us is Jesus in action, and not the weakness of a self-governed life that insists on having its own way.
We must allow the Holy Spirit to bring us to the place where the will, wisdom, faith, and purposes of Jesus can be expressed through our lives. We are not called to make our own human abilities the centre of attention, but we are called to become surrendered vessels through which the life of Christ is revealed. This fact requires a complete change in how we approach our circumstances. So rather than continually asking ourselves what we can accomplish by our own strength, we must ask what Jesus desires to accomplish through us by the power of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit does not need us to remain alive to self, where we continually fight His leading and keep insisting on our own preferences. He wants our hearts surrendered, yielded, and available to His purposes. “The Holy Spirit does not need us alive in the flesh fighting Him but He wants us dead, and totally submitted to Him.” This posture is the foundation for us walking in the inconceivable, which is the total surrender of self so that Christ may be expressed through us.
Jesus illustrated this principle when speaking to Peter in John.21:18 when He spoke these words: “Most assuredly, I say to you, when you were younger, you girded yourself and walked where you wished; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish.” Jesus was showing Peter that his life would not always be governed by his own choices, preferences, and initiative, because a time would come when Peter would have to surrender his independence and allow another to direct him, even into places he would not naturally choose to go.
In the context of the Holy Spirit’s instruction to me this morning, this points to the depth of surrender required for us to fulfil the Lord’s purpose. We must be willing to let the Holy Spirit direct our steps beyond the boundaries of our own desires and comfort. We must remember that a person who has died cannot direct himself. However he can be carried to a place by the one carrying him and positioned according to that person’s intention. In the same way, we must become so surrendered to the Holy Spirit that He can direct us where He wants us to go and lead us into what He wants us to accomplish.
This does not mean that we cease to have a mind, will, emotions, or intellect. It just means that we surrender these faculties, together with our bodies, to the government of the Holy Spirit. We must no longer insist on deciding for ourselves where we will go, whom we will serve, what we will do, or what we are willing to undertake. Instead, we must allow the Holy Spirit to lead us into the mind and purposes of Christ.
The Holy Spirit is calling us to ask Him to accomplish through us what appears inconceivable from our perspective but is already within the heart and mind of Christ for us to fulfil. I can testify personally to the way the Holy Spirit can change our hearts and lead us into places we once believed we would never return to. There were two countries I had declared I would never go to again: Sierra Leone and Nigeria.
Yet the Holy Spirit changed my heart towards both countries and gave me a love for their people that I never believed I could have. He subsequently led me to minister to people there in the name of Jesus, and I witnessed wonderful miraculous results. I remember the season when I was praying for both countries under the direction of the Holy Spirit, and after I began praying for them, I started encountering Nigerians and Sierra Leoneans who needed my spiritual help in London, and later in Botswana and the United States of America.
These encounters helped me recognize that we cannot simply run away from the Lord’s plan for our lives, because His purposes can continue to surface through our circumstances, relationships, and opportunities. Whenever we resist His direction because of our personal feelings, we may find ourselves resisting the very assignment He wants us to fulfil. So the answer is to submit willingly to His will and allow the Holy Spirit to have His way in us.
However, the Lord melted my heart and through the grace and love of the Holy Spirit, I began praying for Sierra Leone. As I continued to seek the Lord, the Holy Spirit began giving me visions of myself ministering in the country. So what I had previously rejected became part of the purpose the Lord was revealing to me. Those visions began to manifest when I returned to Sierra Leone and I witnessed the Lord, through the Holy Spirit, perform remarkable things, including miracles, signs, and wonders. These experiences transformed my heart, and I grew to love the people and the country again.
I have returned on many occasions over the years and have seen the hand of the Lord manifested in numerous ways. So what I once rejected became a place of ministry, love, and testimony because I allowed the Holy Spirit to change my heart and redirect my steps. This experience demonstrates why we must never assume that our present feelings represent the final word concerning Lord’s purpose for our lives. We may dislike a place, reject an assignment, or believe that certain people are beyond our willingness to serve. Yet the Holy Spirit can transform our hearts, by giving us His love, and lead us into His purposes in ways we could never have imagined.
The Holy Spirit is calling us to stop limiting our lives to what we can naturally conceive. So we must begin to look beyond our present understanding and expect Him to lead us into the purposes of Christ, because there may be places we have never imagined visiting, people we never thought we could love, assignments we would never voluntarily choose, or challenges we believe are beyond our ability to handle. Yet these may be precisely the areas in which the Lord wants to demonstrate His power through our surrendered lives.
Our responsibility is not to determine beforehand how every assignment will work out, but it is to surrender to the Holy Spirit, listen to His direction, and obey Him as He leads us. The disciples had no natural provision sufficient to feed the multitudes, but Jesus always knew how to cooperate with the Father and the Holy Spirit. In the same way, we must not assume that the absence of natural resources means the absence of divine provision. The Lord may call us to act where our own wisdom cannot supply an answer, to go where our preferences would never take us, or to love those whom we once rejected.
As we yield to Him, He can accomplish what is beyond our natural abilities and understanding, which is why the Holy Spirit wants our prayers to change. We should not only ask for what seems reasonable or manageable within our present circumstances. We should also seek what is in the heart and mind of Christ for us, because what He wants to accomplish marvels through our lives for His glory, even when it seems inconceivable to us. Our lives are meant to become demonstrations of the power of Jesus, so that people may see what He can do through those who have surrendered completely to Him.
My prayer this morning is that these words will penetrate your heart and that you will receive the grace supplied through them to love what you have hated and realign yourself with the Lord’s purpose for your life. May you become willing to receive and walk in everything Jesus has purposed for you to do for His glory, even when it takes you outside your comfort zone and into places you never believed you would go.
May your heart be stirred to walk with the Holy Spirit in a place where you ask for and expect what is naturally inconceivable to you, but which is already within the heart and mind of Christ for your life. I beseech you to surrender your heart and soul, that is your mind, your will, your emotions, and your intellect, as well as your body, to the Holy Spirit by giving Him permission to direct you, change your desires, reshape your thinking, and lead you into assignments that may challenge your natural preferences.
Be willing to go where He sends you, and be willing to serve whom He asks you to serve. Be willing to believe Him when the resources appear insufficient and the outcome seems impossible by allowing Him to work through you in ways that go beyond your natural expectations and demonstrate the mighty hand of the Lord. The goal is not to glorify human ability but it is to reveal Jesus through His followers.
As we surrender our hearts to the Holy Spirit, the life and faith of the Son of God can be expressed more fluently through us, thus bringing glory to His name and giving people evidence of His power and faithfulness in the name of Jesus. Amen. I declare that my life is available for the expression of Jesus. His faith, wisdom, love, power, and purposes shall be manifested through me by the Holy Spirit.
I will no longer insist on living according to my own preferences, but will allow the Holy Spirit to lead me into places I would not naturally choose and assignments I could never accomplish by my own strength so that every heart that needs to be changed, every place I need to go, every person I am called to serve, and every assignment prepared for me by the Lord shall be approached with a yielded heart.
I declare that I am not confined to my comfort zone but that I am surrendered to the Lord’s purpose and available for His glory. The Holy Spirit will lead me into the works Jesus has prepared for me, and through my obedience, people will see the reality of Jesus and the mighty hand of the Lord at work. I receive the grace to ask for what is in the heart and mind of Christ, to believe beyond natural limitations, and to walk in the inconceivable as the Holy Spirit directs me.
I declare that my life shall become a testimony of His power, and Jesus Christ shall receive the glory for everything He accomplishes through me. I am dead to self, alive in Christ, and wholly surrendered to the Holy Spirit, and I will go where He leads, do what He commands, love whom He calls me to love, and believe Him for what I cannot conceive naturally. Through me, may the faith and power of Jesus be demonstrated on the earth, and may His name be glorified in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
