Today I will share part one of my communion time with the Holy Spirit which deals with walking being full of the Holy Spirit in the life of a follower of Jesus as recorded in the book of Acts. I pray you will be so stirred to choose walking in the counsel of the Holy Spirit so you can experience these same miraculous results in your life.
I know many will say why does bro Emile always say the Holy Spirit says in his posts rather than just speak out what he has to say? I am glad you asked because if you look in the book of the Acts you will find out that every time we are told someone was filled or full of the Holy Spirit their actions and conduct was in line with the nature and character of the Lord.
This means that the influence in that situation concerning their action was done by the Holy Spirit in them. You will also find that their action brought forth miraculous success, victory, triumph and glory to the name of the Lord.
A classic example of this truth is when we are introduced to the person of Barnabas in the book of Acts. We first meet him when he sells his land in Cyprus in Acts.4.36-37 and brings the proceeds to the Apostles. His contribution is so substantial that the apostles call him a son of encouragement.
We meet him next in Acts.9:27 But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles. And he declared to them how he had seen the Lord on the road, and that He had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus. He is the first believer who embraces Paul as a beloved brother by talking of his miraculous salvation and introduces him to the Apostles using his influence by the Holy Spirit to integrate Paul into the fold as an accepted brother. What a heightened sense of “Spiritual discernment.”
Then we see him again in action in Acts.10:22-26: For he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord. 25 Then Barnabas departed for Tarsus to seek Saul. 26 And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they assembled with the church and taught a great many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.
Just look at the description of Barnabas here: a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith who again goes in search of Paul. Then finds him and brings him to Antioch church where the move of the Holy Spirit is happening and they both remain there a year serving the purpose of the Lord. Those actions he takes are Holy Spirit inspired and guided, bringing much profit for the Kingdom.
We next meet him in Acts.12:25: And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem when they had fulfilled their ministry, and they also took with them John whose surname was Mark. They fulfill the ministry God had for them and we see them back in Antioch bearing fruit for the kingdom.
We meet him next in Acts.13:2 & 3: As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away.
Again we see Barnabas very much under the influence and control of the Holy Spirit. We again see what goes on to happen by the Holy Spirit in Acts.13:4: So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus. The Holy Spirit’s influence is guiding and directing the movement of Barnabas which is a beautiful sight to behold because there is much spiritual fruit being achieved.
Again in Acts.13:46: we read these words: 46 Then Paul and Barnabas grew bold and said, “It was necessary that the word of God should be spoken to you first; but since you reject it, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles. Barnabas again under the influence of the Holy Spirit is empowered with the Spirit of boldness and pronounces the judgments of God.
Next we read these words about Barnabas: And the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe. This was after Paul had been beaten and taken up for dead but Barnabas is still operating in the power of the Holy Spirit. They completed the mission of the Holy Spirit and we again see in Acts.13:27-28: Now when they had come and gathered the church together, they reported all that God had done with them, and that He had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles. 28 So they stayed there a long time with the disciples. Barnabas again walked according to the dictates of the Holy Spirit.
Again in Acts.15:2 2: Therefore, when Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and dispute with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas and certain others of them should go up to Jerusalem, to the apostles and elders, about this question. Barnabas is again walking in the Holy Spirit to see the will of the Lord established and this concludes with these words in Acts.15:34: However, it seemed good to Silas to remain there. 35 Paul and Barnabas also remained in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.
