This morning, as we fellowship together with the Holy Spirit, let us settle one question in our hearts concerning why are we concerned about whether the Lord will fulfil what He has said to us? Is the record of His faithfulness throughout Scripture not enough? Even beyond everything we have already seen the Lord do, Hebrews 6:17–20 assures us of the immutability of His counsel concerning us. The Lord does not change His mind because circumstances change and His Word does not become uncertain because opposition appears.
The Holy Spirit reminded me that Jesus often asked people, “Why do you take that thought saying?” pointing to the fact that Jesus always challenged thoughts that contradicted what the Father had said. Let’s look at Matthew 9:23–26. When Jesus entered Jairus’ house and said that the girl was not dead but sleeping, even though the people laughed Him to scorn. Jesus knew exactly what He was doing.
The question arises why did they laugh scornfully in a place where they were grieving? The reason was because they allowed what they could see naturally to contradict what Jesus had said. We as Jesus’s followers must be careful not to do the same thing when the Lord speaks things contrary to what we see in the natural. So even though Jesus had already demonstrated who He was through signs and wonders, yet people could still question Him when circumstances became difficult.
In Luke 4:14–15, when news about Jesus spread throughout the region, and He was glorified by all. However later, when Jesus declared that, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing” (Luke 4:21–22), familiarity caused people to question Him saying “Is this not Joseph’s son?” They had the evidence of Him performing miracles, yet they allowed familiarity to speak louder than the truth.
Amazingly their response became so hostile that Luke 4:28–30 tells us they tried to throw Jesus over a cliff. This incident shows us just how dangerous it is to allow deception to replace truth. We must guard our hearts with all diligence for out of it are the issues of life. The disciples themselves experienced this struggle where Jesus spoke opposite to what present circumstances were saying. In Mark 4:38–41, when the storm arose, they cried to Jesus: “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”
Jesus calmed the storm and then asked them the question: “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” They also had seen Jesus’ power, yet fear made them question His care. This is why we must never allow circumstances to dictate what we believe about Jesus. John 8:32 says these words: “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
We must always remember that the truth does not change because the situation looks hopeless. Jesus does not become less faithful because the storm becomes stronger. His counsel remains immutable. His Word remains true and His character remains unchanged. Therefore, 1 Corinthians 15:58 calls us to be: “Steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that our labour in the Lord is not in vain.”
So today, make a fresh quality decision to become steadfast and immovable in the truth. Refuse to allow negative reports, criticism, fear, deception, or circumstances to govern your belief system. Do not let another voice make you question what the Lord has already spoken. Instead, receive the instruction of Philippians 2:5 which reads these words: “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.”
Let the mind of Christ govern how you interpret your circumstances by letting the Holy Spirit lead your thoughts. So the truth will have the final word in your life. Whenever something appears impossible, remember the fact that Jesus has not changed and the Lord has not failed you because His counsel concerning you remains immutable. So today, I choose to believe what the Lord has said.
I choose truth over deception, I choose faith over fear and I choose the Word of the Lord over every contrary report. I purposefully choose the mind of Christ over every thought that contradicts Him. Holy Spirit, help me today to recognize every thought that does not agree with the truth and keep my heart steadfast and my mind anchored in what Jesus has said.
Deliver me from allowing circumstances, criticism, fear, or deception to redefine my confidence in the Lord’s ability. Teach me to remain immovable when everything around me appears contrary. I let the mind of Christ govern my thoughts, my decisions, my responses, and my actions. I surrender my thought life to you today Holy Spirit and I choose to believe Jesus, to trust His Word, and walk in the path You have prepared for me.
I declare that I am steadfast and immovable in the truth and I will not be governed by negative thoughts, contrary reports, fear, criticism, or deception because I believe what the Lord has spoken concerning me. Jesus is faithful and His counsel concerning me is immutable. So His Word will not fail because I receive the mind of Christ, and I walk under the leadership of the Holy Spirit.
I will never abandon the Lord’s Word concerning me because circumstances appear contrary to His word and I will not allow the voice of opposition to become louder than the voice of the Lord in my life. I remain aligned with the Lord, steadfast in faith, and immovable in truth.
I declare that every obstacle before me must bow to the purposes of the Lord for my life. I choose to believe in Jesus, and therefore I step forward into the triumph He has already prepared for me. What God has spoken shall be fulfilled for His glory. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
