This message is a strong and timely exhortation from the Holy Spirit calling followers of Jesus to stop reacting to the actions of their enemies and instead to respond only to the voice and instruction of the Lord. It emphasises that decisions made under pressure, fear, or the need to appear in control often lead only to costly mistakes, while the truth remains that what the Holy Spirit speaks is what can be trusted to stand firm on and produce lasting results.

At its core, this message urges a focused, unwavering gaze on Jesus as the Shepherd, by following His leading with confidence that all will be well. In John 5:30, it highlights Jesus’ example of complete dependence on the Father where He speaks of doing nothing of Himself, but only what He heard and saw from the Father. In the same way, we as followers of Jesus are called to resist rash, hasty decisions that stem from speculation or the human pressure to provide quick answers, especially to satisfy others’ expectations of us.

The Holy Spirit stressed the fact that we are not required to answer every question we are asked or justify our actions to people. So acting prematurely just to appear like one is guided by the Holy Spirit reveals a lack of trust. Instead, there is a call to have a quiet confidence which is based on waiting for the Lord’s voice before moving.

This message illustrates this truth powerfully through the life of Moses and the children of Israel in Exodus 14:15–20. When the Lord instructed them to camp in front of the Red Sea which was a position that appeared foolish, vulnerable, and strategically unsound. Yet Moses obeyed the Lord without explanation or panic, despite the people’s doubts.

This seemingly unreasonable positioning was in fact the divine setup for one of the greatest miracles in history. The Lord had no intention for them to retreat, but for them to advance in a way never seen before, which created a testimony that would echo through generations.

In contrast, Numbers 14:39–44 serves as a warning to us not to act presumptuously as when the people acted hastily and presumptuously without the Lord’s instruction, which resulted in then suffering defeat. This reinforces the danger of moving ahead of the Lord due to pressure, fear, or the desire to appear wise.

This message further reveals that the Lord’s greatest miracles rarely occur under “perfect” natural conditions. Instead, He intentionally allows situations that appear impossible to men so He can demonstrate His power. The example of Peter walking on water in Matthew 14:28–29 shows that the miraculous is accessed not through careful human calculation, but through immediate obedience to the Lord’s voice through His word even in the midst of storms.

While it may have looked irrational to step out of the boat, Peter’s response to Jesus’ command gave him a testimony no other disciple or human has ever experienced. The other eleven remained in the comfort of safety and missed that dimension of glory.

This leads us to a key instruction which states that we should “Never hesitate on thus saith the Lord” (Numbers 23:19–20). When the Lord speaks, our obedience must be immediate and unfiltered by human reasoning. It is better to appear foolish in the eyes of men and walk in the Lord’s power than to act “wisely” by human standards and miss the Lord’s will entirely.

The message calls for us as followers of Jesus to resist the urge to defend the Lord or themselves through natural reasoning and actions, and instead to wait patiently on the Lord even in situations that seem awkward or embarrassing until the Lord gives direction. This posture preserves our alignment with His will and positions us to experience His divine intervention and receive a powerful testimony.

Ultimately, the Holy Spirit is inviting you as a follower of Jesus to embrace a lifestyle of calm unperturbed trust, with patient obedience, and a bold response to His voice alone. As this spiritual posture is embraced, it will produce supernatural outcomes, with new beginnings, and undeniable victories that glorify the Lord and advance His Kingdom on earth.
