Throughout the years of communion time with the Holy Spirit, He has continually taught me the importance of the mouth and speech in relation to our righteousness, faith, and the manifestation of the Lord’s purposes. In this particular time of fellowship, He brought together several scriptures which I have studied over the years to reveal how the condition of the heart determines the words of the mouth and ultimately influences the outcomes we experience in life.

The Holy Spirit first drew my attention to Proverbs 3:16, which declares these words “Wisdom extends to you long life in one hand and wealth and promotion in the other. Out of her mouth flows righteousness, and her words release both law and mercy.” The phrase, “out of her mouth flows righteousness,” became the focal point of my meditation which led to a deeper consideration of Romans 10:6, where the Apostle Paul writes these words: “But the righteousness of faith speaks in this way…”

The Holy Spirit revealed that righteousness first of all is not silent, it speaks out from our hearts. Most importantly, what a person says in their heart eventually flows through their mouth and determines the direction and results of their life. This opened a fresh understanding of how the hidden conversations taking place within the heart are of tremendous spiritual significance. So the question then became: What is the heart saying when no one else is listening?

Is the heart questioning the Lord’s promises because of unfavourable circumstances? Is it wondering whether the Lord’s Word will truly come to pass? Or is it boldly affirming that what the Lord has spoken has already been received? Is thanksgiving flowing continually from the mouth because we know the answer is already settled in the spirit? Is praise rising from the heart in confidence and full expectation of the manifested promise?

The Holy Spirit emphasised that these are vital questions we should ask ourselves because doubt, fear, and unbelief often attempt to enter through negative circumstances and the enemy’s suggestions. When such thoughts are entertained, they seek to rob us of our inheritance and reward. Therefore, continual self-examination of the heart is necessary so that any wrong attitudes, words, or thought patterns that oppose the Lord’s promises can be identified, repented of, corrected and uprooted out of our lives.

This revelation enabled me to make a reassessment of daily life and provided me the opportunity to make the necessary adjustments wherever wrong thinking could produce loss. The Holy Spirit was revealed once again to be the faithful Helper who does not want us the followers of Jesus to wander in confusion or spiritual uncertainty. Whenever His people recognise they have missed His way and return to Him in repentance, He graciously provides a way back into alignment with His purposes.

This understanding produced a heartfelt prayer of “Lord, please help me walk in the place where righteousness flows from my mouth because my heart is full of the righteousness of Jesus, from whom law and mercy flow toward us in every situation.”

The Holy Spirit then highlighted Romans 10:8 which reads these words: “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach). This scripture reinforced the decision to speak only what the Lord says and to refuse my mouth to give voice to unbelief, fear, and contrary reasoning. As followers of Jesus it is our responsibility is to allow the Word of God to fill our hearts and then permit that same Word to proceed boldly from our mouths.

The Holy Spirit further connected this truth to Romans 4:17, where the Lord is described as the One: “Who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did.”This fact is the very principle the Lord used in creation. He spoke into darkness, by calling forth light, and the light appeared. The visible world itself was formed through the power of His spoken Word. Therefore, we as Jesus’s followers are called to partner with the Lord by speaking in agreement with Him rather than releasing empty human words that contradict His purposes.

Using 2 Corinthians 5:17-21, the Holy Spirit emphasised the fact that as sons and daughters of the Lord, we as followers of Jesus have been entrusted with the ministry of representing His Kingdom here on earth. The primary way Jesus’s Kingdom is manifested is through our speaking His words rather than our own. By us withholding empty speech and agreeing with heaven, we become instruments through which the Lord’s purposes are established in the earth.

This realisation highlights the tremendous privilege and honour the Lord has given to us His children. As 1 John 3:1 declares, we have been made sons and daughters of God. Such a wonderful calling requires diligence in guarding both our hearts and mouths so that only words consistent with the Lord’s will are spoken through us.

The Holy Spirit reminded me that the Lord has much more to say, and everything He says produces good, fruitful, lasting results. His words bring life, hope, blessing, restoration, and rich fulfilment rather than destruction or loss. Therefore, as followers of Jesus we are called to continually speak His righteousness and agree with His perspective in every circumstance.

The overall lesson from the Holy Spirit was one of more accurate alignment with Him. Through scripture, study, and deeper fellowship, the Holy Spirit continually refines our perspectives, corrects our limited thinking, and brings us back into agreement with the Lord’s program. As our hearts becomes saturated with the Lord’s Word, our mouths naturally begins to release His righteousness, and His purposes are accomplished through those who walk in obedience to His voice.

The invitation from this revelation is to enter into a deeper place of communion with the Holy Spirit, by allowing Him to govern both the hidden conversations of the heart and the public declarations of our mouths in perfect harmony with thus saith the Lord. As we Jesus’s followers learn to speak the Lord’s words rather than their own, we will move into closer union and oneness with Christ and thus become more effective instruments for fulfilling His purposes on earth.

In the mighty name of Jesus, I declare that your heart is being filled afresh with the revealed Word, wisdom, and righteousness of the Lord. May every voice of fear, doubt, unbelief, and contradiction that has attempted to occupy your inner conversation be silenced by the authority of the Holy Spirit.

May the righteousness of faith arise within you and speak boldly through your heart and mouth. May thanksgiving replace anxiety, so that praise replaces questioning the Lord’s faithfulness, and confidence in the Lord’s promises replace every uncertainty dogging your hearts. May your words increasingly reflect the heart of the Father and the mind of Christ.

I declare that the Holy Spirit is working to refine your speech, by purifying your thoughts, and bringing your heart into deeper agreement with heaven’s plan for your life. May you speak life where death has threatened, hope where discouragement has lingered, and faith where fear has sought to dominate.

May the Word of the Lord remain near you embedded in your heart and in your mouth, and may you continually declare what the Lord says concerning your life, your family, your calling, and your future. As you agree with His Word, may His Kingdom be manifested through you with increasing power and authority in Jesus name.

I declare that new doors of communion with the Holy Spirit are opening before you so you can walk in closer fellowship with Him, by hearing His voice with greater clarity, and fulfil His purpose for your life by speaking His righteousness from the depths of your heart.

May signs, wonders, miracles, provision, favour, and divine fruitfulness accompany your obedience. May you walk in the fullness of your inheritance as a child of the Lord and experience the abundant life Jesus purchased for you in Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
